KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology) and ACTS (Advanced Cultural Technologies & Services, Daejeon) co-founded a joint research lab to support SMEs to create ultra HD contents using KISTI's supercomputing system.

The joint research lab AKIReC (ACTS + KISTI + Research + Center) is located in ACTS Action Center. AKIReC plan to provide high-tech producing environment for creating UHD contents. Local SMEs will be able to utilize supercomputing system for computer graphic and special effects. The SMEs could also develop new merchandises and business models with 3D printing system as well. Both parties agreed to foster an approachable research environment for OSMU (One-Source Multi-Use).

It is highly expected that utilization of the supercomputing system is soon to rise in this upcoming era of UHD contents. Dr. Park Young Seo, President of KISTI, noted: "We hope supercomputer simulation-based technologies would be widely used in fields including film making, broadcasting and communications industry." President of ACTS, Lee Hyo-Jeong also expected that the creation of UHD contents would boost the local economy as well.
