S&T cooperation with Costa Rica
KISTI in cooperation with GCC(Global Commercialization Center) of KAIST has concluded LOI with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications of the Republic of Costa Rica(MICITT) on July 14th at MICITT's office. This agreement aims to intensify mutual cooperation on science and technology between two countries and has its special focus on NTIS, National R&D Information Management System of Korea this time. In line with this regard, KISTI and MICITT have agreed to conduct feasibility study in advance before ting the project proposal for establishing NTIS in Costa Rica. At a Kick-off metting held in MICITT, Dr.Marcelo M.Jenkins, the Minister of MICITT has emphasized the importance of getting the cooperation from the universites mainly involved in R&D projects of Costa Rica to make this feasibility study successful. Dr.Hahn Sunhwa, President of KISTI has also said that KISTI will make the most of its experience and know-how acqured from the process of establishing NTIS in Korea. -

MoU with AL-Farabi Kazakh National University
KISTI has concluded MoU with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on April 11th. Dr.Tlekabul S. Ramazanov, Acting Rector of University and Dr.You Beom-jong, Director General of Advanced Information Convergence Div. of KISTI shook hands to support S&T cooperation between KISTI and Al-Farabi University. Especiallym, both organizations have agreed to set their priority on the implementation of R&D through the sharing of existing capacities, knowledge and experience, transferring technology, establishing of lasting partnerships and dissemination of information. Recently, KISTI has ed feasibility study for national R&D environement of Kazakhstan and suggested its plan for establishing Kazakhstand R&D project management ststem to Kazakh Goverment. As a follow-up of this study, KISTI will also cooperate with Kazakh National University for implementing R&D management system. -

Meeting with VAST(Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology)
Dr. Moon Young-ho and KISTI researchers visited VAST(Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) on March.16th in Hanoi and had a meeting with Prof.Dr.Sc.Duong Ngoc Hai, Vice President of VAST and some of representatives of VAST institutes. During the meeting, Dr.Lee Hyuck-jai has introduced COMPAS to VAST and discussed the way of technology consulting and transfer of COMPAS system. COMPAS is developed by KISTI and is suitable software for analyzing competitive information for SMEs who want to devlep new product and want to know of their competitors. COMPAS is an on-line analysis service which is intended to help firs make information decisions by providing means to analyze the comptitive environment-often represented by the vast amount of the intellectual peroperties such as patents, journal articles, and traading statistics. User can condut rapid and in-depth analysis on the most frequently asked MOT(Managment of Technology) questions of targeted technological areas by following the simple and easy steps in COMPAS. Dr. Moon and and Dr.Duong, Vice President of KISTI and VAST have agreed to conduct joint R&D project first before introducing COMPAS system to Vietnam. KISTI and ISI ,IOIT of Vietnam will discuss follow-up actions in near future. -

2016 Korea-Vietnam Workshop for S&T Infrastructure
KISTI held 4th Korea-Vietnam workshop for S&T Information in Hanoi on March 15th. This workshop was held in cooperation with ISI(Institute of Science and Technology Information) and IOIT(Institute of Information Technology). KISTI has presented its R&D on information service, high-performance research network and COMPAS(Competitive Information Analysis Service) to scientists and researchers of VAST(Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology). As science and technolgoy ODA program, KISTI has been co-organizing S&T workshop wtih Vietnam to share its knowledge and experience KISTI has been builidng up for the past 53 years on national S&T Knowledge Infrastructure. -

MoU with University of Illinois
Dr.You Bum-jong, Director General of KISTI shook hands with Ms.Reitumetse Obakeng Mabokela, Vice Provost for International Affairs and Global Strategy of University of Illinois after signing the MoU between KISTI and University of Illinoise on May 12th. By concluding the MoU, both organizations have agreed to expand mutual cooperation for information exchange and joint research on mutual interest. -

2015 KISTI Global Academy for S&T Infrastructure
KISTI held 2015 Global Academy for S&T Infrastructure on May 14-15 in its head office. Global Academy was planned to provide developing countries with experience and knowledge on S&T Infrastructure KISTI has been building up since its foundation in 1962. This program was organized in cooperation with STEPI(Science and Technology Policy Institue) and researchers from Science and Technology Information Center in Ethiopia participated as 1st trainees. 2 days of this program consisted of 3 main areas such as information collection and serive, information analsyis and evaluation, supercomputing utilization. Researchers of STIC learned the history and process of S&T Infrastructure development in Korea and discussed the way with KISTI researchers they will persue in future. Responding to the increasing demand from developing countries, KISTI will expand its S&T Infrastructure training program next year. -

KISTI expands KISTI-Geneva Sectioin to 10 Gbps
KISTI said on April 21st that it will expand its GSDC data bandwidth to 10 Gbps. Korean scientist can receive LHC source data 10 times faster than now and real-time utilization of its data is expected to improve the competitiveness of R&D on basic science. By building up 10Gbps data bandwidth between Daejeon and Geneva, KISTI can transmit 1 PB data in 23 days which took 289 days with 2Gbps before. The expansion of 10 Gbps is a follow-up action of CERN’s approval on April, 2014 of Tier-1 center for Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning(MSIP) and KISTI. KISTI expanded the bandwidth of Daejeon-Chicago section to 10Gbps and secured Chicago-Geneva section by collaborating with “SURFnet” of Netherlands. Korea scientists were not easy to access to CERN In the meantime, Korean scientists were not easy to approach CERN and used to suffer from data delay till now. -

KISTI Receives Presidential Citation on 2014 National R&D Result Evaluation
Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) received a presidential citation on 2014’s National R&D Result Evaluation. KISTI, an information infrastructure institute, increased productivity of national S&T research. Moreover, KISTI responded to the national and social needs by preparing Big Data infrastructure and so forth. -

'Emerging Tech Seminar 2014' - Next 10 Years
KISTI has announced 10 promising technologies at ‘Emerging Tech Seminar 2014’ on Nov. 11th. 2014 is the 9th seminar for the name of ‘Emerging Tech Seminar’, and KISTI has been announcing the most prominent and promising new technologies under the support of Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and NST, National Research Council of Science & Technology. The seminar is serving its role as a community sharing future technologies and R&D strategies. This year, the 10 technologies were chosen according to the national vision of the future – healthy society, smart society, creative convergent society, safe society, and sustainable nature &society. The technologies are as in the following. ▲ Autoimmune Diseases Treatment ▲ Optogenetics Technology ▲ Biomimetic Robots ▲ Learning Analysis ▲ Cloud Environmental Security Technology ▲ 4D Printing ▲ Transporting without Human Resources ▲ Intelligent Transportation System V2X Technology ▲ Lithium Sulful Battery ▲ Metamaterial Technology The list of 10 promising technologies is extracted from more than 8,000 new technologies through KISTI’s Big Data analysis and experts’ verification system. No. 115 View. 12712 On Nov. 12, Science and Technology Information Center (STIC, Ethiopia) visited KISTI headquarter in Daejeon. Dr. Hahn Sun-hwa, President of KISTI, received STIC deligation for an in-depth communication between two leaders of each institute. The visit was composed with introductory sessions of each party, and KISTI gave out introductions on Information Distribution and National Supercomputing. More upcoming collaboration and cooperation of two institutes are expected in the future.
